Cuba arrests activists as government blames unrest on U.S. interference.

HAVANA, July 12 (Reuters) - Cuba blamed historic protests that took place over the weekend on U.S. "economic asphyxiation" and detained some of the highest profile activists, while the Biden administration said it supported the Cuban people's right to demonstrate.

The streets of Havana were quiet on Monday, although there was a heavy police presence and the capitol building, where more than a thousand had congregated the day before, was cordoned off. Outages in mobile internet - the only way many Cubans have of accessing the web - were frequent.

Cuba Accused of Using Chinese Tech Systems to Block Internet Access Amid Protests.

Cuba is accused of having adopted China-made technology systems to control and block internet access, amid reports that messaging apps and Cubans’ internet service are being blocked in the communist-ruled country after thousands of citizens took to the streets on Sunday to protest against a lack of freedoms and worsening economic conditions.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Sunday warned in a statement on Twitter that the Cuban regime would “block internet & cell phone service soon to prevent videos about what is happening to get out to the world.”

Later in the day, he wrote, “I warned about this earlier today. It is happening and will continue,” adding, “By the way, they use a system made, sold & installed by #China to control and block access to the internet in #Cuba.” The ruling party in China is also a communist dictatorship.

Violent Arbitrary Detention against the Miranda Leyva Family.
Ana Iris Miranda Leyva, Ada Iris Miranda Leyva, Fidel Manuel Batista Leyva, Maydolis Leyva Portelles (Political Prisoners and Prisoners of Conscience), Tahimí Rodríguez Miranda (14 years old) and Alain Michel Rodríguez Miranda (13 years old), children of Ada Iris, denounce the violent Arbitrary Detention perpetrated against them, and even against the little dog Luna, on June 16, 2021, at approximately 1: 30 PM; Maydolis, the two children and the little dog were detained for 1 hour, and in the case of the three siblings it lasted until June 19, 2021 at the UDCSE.
