‘Woke Activism’ Could Take Over Hispanic Radio Stations: Interview with Orlando Gutierrez.

Stations that have played as a “hub of community awareness” and as a “public space for the Cuban exile community” could now be at risk.

As part of El American series of short interviews, our contributor Julio M. Shiling interviewed journalist Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat, secretary-general of the Cuban Democratic Directorate, to discuss the recent purchase of 18 Hispanic radio stations by a group of Democrats financed by George Soros, including the iconic Radio Mambí, known for its anti-communist views.

Gutiérrez-Boronat said he was concerned that the role these stations have played as a “hub of community awareness” and as a “public space for the Cuban exile community” could now be at risk.

'WOKE ACTIVISM' Could Take Over HISPANIC RADIO Stations

“News about human rights violations in Cuba, about persecution, about repression, have been made known to the world through these stations,” Gutiérrez-Boronat said.

“We’re concerned because the group making the buy, which is Latino Media Network, the leaders of this group, the executives, have a long history of progressive, left-wing, woke activism, and we’re concerned that there could be a silencing or a marginalization of the voices inside Cuba and this community that oppose communism and socialism in Cuba.” he said.

The journalist highlighted that, thanks to important broadcasters such as these, the evils of communism and socialism have been exposed to the world. However, he pointed out, the radio stations have also been a broad center for the debate of ideas and contrast of opinions that have promoted freedom of thought among the Cuban community.
