For many, September 11 (9/11) marks a dreadful event that changed America and the West forever. In less than 2 ½ hours, 2,977 people died, over 25,000 were injured, all mostly civilians, in New York City, Washington D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The horrific and targeted attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the intended U.S. Capitol Building were all chosen by the Muslim fundamentalist killers for what they represented for: the capitalist system, the military establishment that defends freedom, and a prototypical representation of republican governance. The recent giveaway of Afghanistan to the very regime that sheltered the material authors of this heinous crime, suggests that America and the West have not learned much from 9/11.
The first and most profound flaw was believing (or publicly expressing) that this act of savagery carried out by nineteen Saudi Al-Qaeda members, was a singular phenomenon executed by a specific group. When the Bush II administration labeled the belligerent response to this attack the “War on Terror”, to not “offend” followers of Islam, America and the West was on the wrong path. 9/11 was different, but not in the way politicians and the mainstream media claimed.

The massive amount of weaponry that the Biden-Harris administration has donated to the Taliban regime has not impeded the National Resistance Front led by Ahmad Massoud from resisting the fundamentalist onslaught. The Panjshir Valley is still today a free Afghanistan. One would have thought that the desire to end a military presence in a country would not set aside systemic safety ramifications for republican societies. Developments keep pointing to a concerning string of events that are inconsistent with the defense of freedom. Why are the U.N., E.U., and the U.S. helping the Taliban?
The illiberal nature of Sharia law, an indispensable component of political Islam, should suffice to warn all freedom-believing countries, regions, and institutions about the futility of supporting Islamic fundamentalism in the hopes that movements like the Taliban can be tamed in the absence of force or other aggressive deterrents. When one adds to the equation the place that jihad with its perennial war against the Judeo-Christian civilization has, it becomes inconceivable that no effort is being made to help the Afghans that are challenging the Taliban, much less come to their aid.

Every first Monday of September, the United States celebrates Labor Day. A federal holiday since 1894, it honors, not just the labor movement, but all who contribute with their work to make America better. This day which, traditionally, closes out the summer season has a controversial beginning. This is best explained when one ponders why most countries in the world celebrate their version of a day dedicated to the workforce on May 1st.
Five Germans, one German American, an Englishman and a former Confederate American soldier, all anarcho-socialists, are the reason for the May 1st worker’s day observance in most of the world. Their names were August Spies, Albert Parsons, George Engel, Adolph Fischer, Louis Lingg, Michael Schwab, Oscar Neebe, and Samuel Fielden. The socialist movement was very much intertwined with anarchism and labor organizations. Socialism’s obsession with dominating all worker groups, something very visible in the 19th century, in fact was an integral part of Soviet communism’s strategy for world hegemony.

Afghanistan is a land of paradox. It is a very poor country, yet at the same time, quite rich. This, one of the most egalitarian places in the world, is sitting on an estimated $3 trillion in untapped natural resources, according to the former Afghan Mines Minister Wahidullah Shahrani and reported by Reuters. Communist China, the Taliban’s financier via its enabler Pakistan, will reap Afghanistan’s wealth.
Copper, iron, lithium, and rare earth metals are some of the minerals which abound in Afghanistan. While these resources have been identified but not fully explored or evaluated, in geological terms, they are considered “undiscovered”. The Soviet Union, during their occupation, did ample research and provided surveys that members of the Afghanistan Geological Survey stored. Moscow had the intention of expropriating these riches. The pullout and the impending collapse of the USSR put an end to those aspirations.
