The Democratic Trojan Horse: How New Socialist Narratives Seek to Rehabilitate Totalitarianism
In recent decades, we have witnessed a disturbing phenomenon: the resurgence of narratives that, under the cloak of apparently benign concepts like "democratic socialism" or "social justice," seek to rehabilitate ideologies that have historically led to despotism. This analysis examines the discursive strategies and political tactics employed for this rehabilitation, as well as the mechanisms by which apparently democratic movements have used liberal institutions to establish authoritarian regimes, distorting the history of the 20th century that left us a fundamental lesson:
Totalitarian regimes of socialist inspiration caused the death of approximately 100 million people, according to conservative estimates by historians like Stéphane Courtois in "The Black Book of Communism."
The Semantic Rehabilitation Strategy
Ideological Rebranding
The first line of defense of new socialist currents consists of a systematic ideological rebranding operation. This strategy operates through several mechanisms:

David Horowitz: From Radical Left to Conservative Spokesperson
A recognized American intellectual, David Horowitz marked the political scene for decades through a remarkable ideological transformation. Born into a family with communist roots, his trajectory reflects a profound ideological shift that took him from the ranks of the radical left to become one of the most influential conservative thinkers in the United States.
Origins and Ideological Transformation
Born into a family of Jewish communist intellectuals in New York in 1939, David Horowitz began his career as a prominent figure within the American New Left during the 1960s. His evolution toward conservative positions marks one of the most significant ideological shifts in contemporary American political history, making him a reference in right-wing thought and a forceful critic of progressive currents.

The New York Times recently published a column by a left-wing academic (forgive the redundancy), John Della Volpe, director of polling at the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics.
In his first sentence, Mr. Della Volpe reveals his politics.
He described young Americans as “stressed and sickened by thoughts of their rights and democracy slipping away.”
That is what Harvard and just about every other university tells America’s young people: “Because of the Right, you should be stressed and sickened — the Right is taking away your rights and destroying your democracy.”
The terrible irony is that there is a mortal threat to Americans’ rights and democracy — but it is entirely from the Left. Ever since Stalin declared Trotsky a “fascist,” the Left has labeled its opponents precisely what the Left itself is.
And it almost always works.

Editor's note: The Progressive Threat, a new pamphlet from Freedom Center founder David Horowitz, lays bare the anti-American, anti-capitalist agenda of the far-left Biden administration: its socialist theft, its sovereignty-destroying border policies, its pro-crime mentality, its identity-politics obsession, and its sinister stupidity. The Progressive Threat is a short but powerful must-read to understand how the neo-Marxist revolutionaries are taking down America in the name of "equity" and "social justice."

An Outlaw Mentality
Everyone in Washington understands the basic causes of inflation. If you print more money than you can back up with real assets like gold, you devalue your currency and make everything cost more. If you declare war on fossil fuels, shut down pipelines, close vast oil fields like ANWR, and don’t approve drilling licenses generally, you cause the price of everything to go up, because virtually everything requires energy to produce. If you spend vast amounts of government money inducing individuals not to work, employers will raise wages to entice them to work, and that, too, will cause prices to go up.[1] It’s not rocket science.
