Marco Rubio has numerous challenges vying for his attention as he begins his tenure as U.S. secretary of State. In Latin America alone, he faces a migrant crisis in Mexico, a corrupt dictatorship in Venezuela, and China's rising influence across the region.

We Cubans are fortunate that Rubio has become America's chief diplomat, because he knows the region's challenges and will also prioritize the crisis taking place just 90 miles from U.S. shores in Cuba.

As the son of Cuban immigrants, Rubio is a close observer and vocal critic of Havana's communist regime. During his confirmation hearing, Rubio said Cuba is "literally collapsing."

He's right. My neighbors and I in Havana experience ongoing power outages and long lines for food and basic medications. Many necessary items are simply not available. The situation is even worse in Cuba's rural areas.

Support for the regime is at an all-time low, and Cubans have become increasingly willing to criticize its economic mismanagement and authoritarianism.

More than 1 million Cubans have fled the island in the last four years, most seeking asylum in the U.S. Even high-ranking communist party officials are leaving. A recent Miami Herald investigation found that Cuba's corrupt elites are hoarding billions of dollars, even as Cuba's electrical grids fail and its people go hungry.

Through the use of social media and mass rallies, Trump was able to connect with his supporters on a personal level, cultivating a strong sense of loyalty and enthusiasm among his traditional followers and a new base that became aware of the false campaigns against him by Democratic party leaders escorted by the deep state, globalist elites and progressive academics, celebrities and art world figures who used million-dollar budgets to disqualify the former president and censor any information that benefited him.

The direct line of communication on social media and his campaign rallies used by Trump to reach traditional and future supporters allowed him to effectively counter the negative narratives propagated by the mainstream media, presenting to the public his own version of the facts and the advantages of his policies.

Moreover, Trump's political, economic, and social agenda resonated with a large segment of the US population that felt marginalized and forgotten by the political establishment.

His promises to prioritize American interests, protect the border, and revitalize the economy resonated with voters who felt neglected by previous administrations. By tapping into the frustrations and concerns of working-class Americans, Trump was able to galvanize a powerful coalition of supporters willing to overlook his spontaneous and unconventional speech and style, which some consider politically incorrect, in favor of tangible political, economic, and social outcomes that will save and make America great again.

Proponents of voter ID laws argue that requiring ID is a commonsense measure that helps prevent fraud and ensures the integrity of elections. Democrats, on the other hand, argue ridiculously and maliciously that these laws disproportionately disenfranchise minority and low-income voters, who may face barriers to obtaining an ID.

It is incredible that in the main pillar of world democracy: the United States, the issue of voting ID has been and is generating a unique and far-fetched controversy in the developed and democratic world. While most modern democracies consider voter ID to be a basic, common-sense, non-controversial requirement, in the U.S. the democrats have made it a subject of intense political debate to manipulate elections to get votes in their favor, all the other justifications they put forward against the need to present an ID to vote are as FALSE as the votes originated by non-citizens who exercise the vote fraudulently.
